Chapter specific - General Rules:
Soul Fragment Basics
Soul Fragments, also known as Frags, are an OOG reward given to our loyal and dedicated players for doing anything that makes the game better and more fun for everyone. This includes, but is not limited to: the volunteering of time, the use of talents, or the donation of game props and costumes. These Frags act as a currency that allows the purchase of rare races, classes, skills, abilities and spheres of magic.
Most things purchased with Frags have a dual cost; in Frags and in CP. A player who wants to purchase a skill must first pay the appropriate amount of Frags to unlock the skill during pre-logistics on the database. The player must then spend the appropriate amount of CP to purchase the skill during pre-logistics on the database before the game. The skill will then be recorded on the player's character card for the start of the next game. To purchase an additional daily use of a skill, or to purchase the skill for a different character, the player would have to re-spend both the cost in Frags and the cost in CP.
Uncommon, Rare, and Obscure races must be purchased with soul frags for each use and may only be purchased when available in the current soul frag catalogue. This applies except as prohibited by Guild House rules.

Character Retirement
Sometimes things go so wrong for an IG character (or so right in the case of some) that playing them becomes more of a chore than a joy. In these cases, retirement is an option for those who wish to abandon a character's fate to Plot and play a different one.
However, there are a few things you should know. When a character is retired he/she becomes an NPC, which may be played by anyone Plot chooses and for any reason Plot desires. Your former character may hit all-time lows or incredible highs. They may continue to be a major force IG or they may walk into the sunset, gone forever. Whatever occurs, it must be clear that you no longer have any say in what happens to that character – it has become a part of the game world.
What happens when you retire a character depends on the character’s current level:
Before 12 Level a character can retire and immediately apply half of their current blankets to a new character. *New Character is defined as one that currently has 0 blankets applied in the database*
After level 12 a character may still retire but they must apply the blankets received for retirement at the normal base rate of 2 blankets per game.
A player may only purchase a full retirement once per season from the Kalidor Catalogue and that full retirement expires at the end of the season.

OOG Chatter/Infernal Speak
“Dude, did you see the commercial for the new GTA,” Braun the Ogre asked his comrades as he sat around the camp fire awaiting the zombie attack.
Nothing, but nothing, destroys the IG mood and ambiance of an Underworld event like someone speaking out of character about modern day, real world things. This is something we strive to avoid at all costs.
To be clear, everyone occasionally needs to ask a question or say something out of character to clarify a situation. When this is absolutely necessary, one should place their hand or weapon to the top of their head to signify that they are speaking OOG.
Keep in mind though, people pay to experience the game and many of us work very hard to bring the game world to life. No one wants to hear about your new game when they're fighting a basilisk. Please respect your fellow players and keep things IG as much as possible.
Those who break this rule may find themselves accused of Infernal Speak. This is a way for us to make an OOG problem into some IG fun. If your character is heard speaking of things that do not exist in the Underworld Universe, such as cars, TVs or video games, it will be assumed IG that they must be communicating in the language of demons and are in danger of possession, (or perhaps they’ve already been possessed).
At best you could find yourself placed in the stocks by a noble, or being cross-examined by a priest or vicar in a Kalidorian Court of Law. At worst your infernal speak may summon the Grimm, an ancient and terrible demon, who will strike down one, or several, of the highest level players in the game while whispering your character’s name into their ear. Whatever the process, realize that it is a “gentle” reminder to stay in character and preserve the enjoyment of the game for those around you.

OOG Garbage Collection/Garbage Elementals
Maintaining game immersion can be seriously compromised by players who don’t take the initiative to clean up their OOG food wrappers, cans and bottles before we have a bona fide mess on our hands. No one wants to wade through your mound of empty pop cans before striking down the most hated enemy from their back story. As such, if the plot team notices that garbage is getting out of hand they may very well send in a cadre of garbage elementals to put an end to the issue.
Garbage Elementals are nigh unstoppable killing machines that can only be laid to rest by depriving them of the refuse that feeds them and putting said trash into a proper receptacle for disposal or recycling. So keep IG areas neat and tidy that you may never have a reason to fear them.

Twice Played Characters
Lorak the Orcish Merc just met his final death. His player goes into logistics and a short while
later he re-emerges and introduces his new character to everyone: “Hi, I'm Korak the Orcish
Merc!”
It's not really a new character of course and soon Korak is back with Lorak's old pals and from their conversations he assumes he more or less knows everything that Gorak did.
In the opinion of the Guild Masters of Kalidor, the above situation goes against the spirit of the Underworld rules, as well as good sportsmanship in general. As such, they have instituted the policy that no player may consecutively play the same race or class.
For example, if you are currently a Dwarven Mage and your character suffers their final death, then your next character can be neither a Dwarf nor a Mage. You can of course return to playing that race or class in the future, just not consecutively. Also you cannot have an alternate character in the Database of the same race or class concurrently.
The one exception to this rule is human characters. A player may play a human as many times as they wish consecutively. This is because humans are so prevalent in the game world and so diverse in culture that one human character can easily be entirely different in both manner and appearance from another. We expect such diversity in consecutive human characters.

Magic Items
All arcane, divine and spirit powered magic items begin their life IG with a one year or less expiry date on the tag. With Spirit powered magic items the spirit will decide if the wielder is worthy of continuing to wield the him/her.
Weapon Construction
All prefabricated latex and foam weapons are non-thrustable weapons and may not be used for that purpose IG. To offset this disadvantage, such weapons may be 2 inches over or under the specified lengths in the rulebook.
All homemade boffer weapons must have at least 2 inches of closed cell foam beyond the pommel and the tip of the weapon and an additional 2 inches of open cell foam on the thrusting tip. If tape is used to secure the open cell foam to the weapon the tape must be perforated and regain its shape very easily after thrusting.

Combat:
Check Swing
Combat in Underworld can be intense, and as such some of us need an occasional reminder to keep combat theatrical and safe for all around us. This rule may be invoked by any player who wishes other players to slow and/or soften their weapon strikes. To invoke this rule a player simply needs to call “Check Swing” during combat. When this call is heard, all players within earshot must reevaluate their swings and slow/soften them to a reasonable degree.
Check Draw
Underworld allows for safe combat archery using ranged weapons with a draw weight of 30lbs or less and foam tipped arrows/bolts. However at closer ranges a 30lb draw can be painful to those on the receiving end of an arrow or bolt. As such this rule may be invoked by any player who wishes other players to lessen their draws for a softer shot. To invoke this rule a player simply needs to call “Check Draw” during combat. When this call is heard, all players within earshot must reevaluate their draws and soften them to a reasonable degree. Players with crossbows that fire at the maximum draw capacity on every shot must retreat to a distance of at least 20 feet before discharging their weapon, or remove the bolt from the weapon. The players in the vicinity of the “check draw” call on a crossbowman are not allowed to charge the crossbowman until they have retreated the 20 feet, or have removed the bolt.
Red Armband Rule
One of the most recognizable Underworld LARP features is the Red Armband Rule. This rule allows for an additional level of physical contact in the pursuit of a higher level of Role Play. For more information on Red Armbanding in general please see the Underworld Rulebook.
To become Red Armband active in Kalidor a player must have attended at least one previous game and must attend the Kalidor Red Armband workshop when it is available.

Safety Rules:
Hold Calls
A “Hold” may be called for many reasons IG, but the most common reason for calling a Hold is for an IG description given by the Plot Team or Shapers. The second most common reason for a Hold is to prevent or remedy a safety concern or injury. If a Hold is called you must stop all action immediately and if practical, take a knee. Please do glance around and make sure the hold was not called for a pair of fallen glasses so that you do not accidentally kneel on and break them. In Kalidor we let people call their own Holds because while a person may be in agony theatrically, they may be having the time of their life in reality. It can be difficult to distinguish between IG and OOG pain and injury. Unless it is completely obvious that the person is injured and unable to call their own Hold, please refrain from calling a hold for them.
Pregnancy
Underworld does not allow any player who is pregnant beyond the first trimester to:
Even outside of combat situations, the dangers of LARPing are inherent, such as tripping while running through the forest at night, or the stress and heat of July and August events. For the safety of the baby, the mother and the protection of the game, just like any sporting activity, we cannot allow pregnant women to play in a PC or NPC role where there is a potential for combat and put themselves or their unborn child at risk.
We do of course allow Kalidorians who are Pregnant in their second or third trimester to participate in the game as photo ninjas, makeup artists, logistics marshals, monster camp marshals and player liaisons. They may also of course PC or NPC in any non-combat, “forum rules” events that may occur during their pregnancy.

Full Game Participation
Underworld can sometimes be a very physical game. The degree to which one participates in the physicality of the game, or degree to which they avoid it is entirely up to the individual player. Every player, however, must be healthy enough to participate in the full spectrum of the rules.
There is no such thing as a non-combat character in Underworld. Every PC or NPC stands the possibility of becoming engaged in combat with little or no notice, (though some Players do manage to go their character’s entire lives without becoming involved in combat, actively avoiding it by choice and this is perfectly acceptable).
We will of course attempt to accommodate individuals with injuries or disabilities to the best of our ability, but any injuries or disabilities which would prevent a player from safely adhering to any Underworld rule cannot participate as a PC or NPC.
We do of course allow Kalidorians who are too injured or disabled to PC or NPC in a regular game to participate as photo ninjas, makeup artists, logistics marshals, monster camp marshals and player liaisons. They may also of course PC or NPC in any non-combat, “forum rules” events that may occur.
